Stranded on the Staircase (to the Moon)

$160.00$420.00

‘Stranded on the Staircase (to the Moon)’ is an acrylic painting on stretched canvas.

The comical painting showcases a different perspective of the popular event. A local fisherman has mistimed his departure from the mangroves and got stuck at low tide during the natural staircase event. A situation many local fisherman can relate to… The allure of ‘Just one more cast’ can sometimes lead too many hours awaiting a tide turn.

Available as a ready to hang print on stretched canvas.
Available in 2 sizes.

‘Stranded on the Staircase to the Moon’ original painting by Broome Artist Suzanne Holland.

Artists Description:

Like moths to a romantic flame, people are drawn to the full moon staircase in Roebuck Bay, but what of the fisherman stranded on the mudflats?

Stranded on the Staircase to the Moon is a tongue in cheek alternative view.

The beautiful moon light illusion, bounces in steps across the thick mud low tide of Roebuck Bay in Broome.

But take care, those sneaky Spring tides are deceiving and as delusional as the staircase.

The tides only master is the moon.

Should you go fishing to that secret hidden spot and dream too long of catching Barramundi and Threadfin Salmon, the travelling tides will rock your soul into a sense of safety, while sucking dry the creek like a draining bathtub.

‘Broome time’ then washes over the landscape inviting noisy, ‘bitie insects’, hungry snapping crabs and an opportunistic wise old croc, to feast on the rich mud soup and its inhabitants who come to dine.

The bewitching moonlight will glow your stranded staircase, in such hypnotic elegance.

But listen to the bats, that screech you a drone view warning:

‘Look Out, Look Out!”

It’s not just the moon that is watching you tonight, while you’re stranded on the staircase.

Have you seen the Staircase to the Moon in Broome?

The Staircase to the Moon is visible on a low tide with a full moon rise. As the Moon rises over the mud flats the light shines down, creating a stairway effect. The event brings tourist from all over the world. If you happen to see a lone boatie head out in a tinnie, in the hope of landing a Barra, remind him to be back before the low tide, or risk being stranded on the ‘Staircase to the Moon’.
